Fighting Pretty is a 501c(3) non-profit organization with a mission to help women battling cancer feel strong and beautiful. The founder, Kara Skaflestad, was diagnosed at age 26 with stage 3 breast cancer. While going through extensive cancer treatment, Kara received a pair of mini pink boxing gloves from a friend's mom, also battling cancer. It was those gloves that reminded Kara to never give up; but it was her inner strength, accented with a touch of bright pink lipstick, that kept her "Fighting Pretty." After Kara's fight was over, she sent her strength and her gloves (along with some makeup) on to another woman battling cancer, and thus, the first Pretty Package was born
The original pink boxing gloves have been passed to a total of five women battling cancer, but the strength of Fighting Pretty has gone on to thousands.
In just six years, Fighting Pretty has sent over 8,500 Pretty Packages to women in all 50 states and 12 countries internationally. Kara and Fighting Pretty have been honored to appear on the Today Show, partner with well-known cosmetics brands, and even ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange to help raise awareness of our mission.
Fighting Pretty is working to not only send Pretty Packages via gifting from friends and loved ones, but also collaborating with hospitals (such as OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Legacy, and the YWCA Breast Cancer Resource Center) to provide Pretty Packages to their patients for free.
